WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade items will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the Item level upgrade, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same Best item upgrade from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an button, which will show an item's preview at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less even in the event that they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It's Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
